For those who take public transport regularly, getting around Abu Dhabi just keeps getting and better! A new project will provide free Wi-Fi on public buses in the capital. Woohoo!

On Sunday, September 8, the Integrated Transport Center (ITC) in Abu Dhabi launched a free Wi-Fi service on public buses in the emirate. The project was introduced in coordination with the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company, better known as du.
ITC and du Launch Free Wi-Fi on Abu Dhabi Buses
Initially, free Wi-Fi services will be provided in 10 buses operating within the city of Abu Dhabi, the main bus station, and one air-conditioned bus shelter, WAM News Agency reported. By the end of the first quarter of 2020, the service is expected to be available in all 520 public buses in the emirate, the main bus stations, and all air-conditioned bus shelters.
“The signing of the contract with du to provide a free Wi-Fi service on public buses is a part of the ongoing efforts by the ITC to improve the quality of services in this sector and to meet customers’ needs in order to raise the level of satisfaction of our services,” according to Mohammed Hamad Al Muhairi, Executive Director of Public Transport at the ITC.
“The introduction of Wi-fi on public transport buses helps to make them popular means of transport by providing sophisticated and modern facilities.” he added. “This reflects the keenness of the ITC to keep pace with the smart transformation process taking place in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.”
For his part, Fahad Al Hasawi, Executive Vice President of Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Services – Services sector commented: “du continues to make constant efforts to provide all its customers with services and solutions that will facilitate their lives. Our partnership with the Abu Dhabi Integrated Transport Center aims to enhance the lifestyle and happiness of UAE residents by offering them value-added services.”
Public Bus Routes with Free Wi-Fi
At present, free Wi-Fi services is offered in the following routes:
- Route 43, which connects major areas of Abu Dhabi from Corniche Hospital to Al Mushrif Mall via Corniche Street, Electra Street, Qasr Al Hosn, Airport Road, Al Falah Street, Al Karama, Alwazarat bridge, Airport Road, and Mushrif
- Route 41, which connects Corniche Hospital to Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center via Hamdan Street, Airport Road, Pepsi Factory, and Zayed Military Hospital
- Route A1, which connects Abu Dhabi Airport City Terminal to Abu Dhabi International Airport
To use the free service, passengers need to activate Wi-Fi on their gadget and connect to “Emirate Wi-Fi by du.” They will receive a text message with a pass code, which must be entered for them to avail of the free service.
