Abu Dhabi is the home of many OFWs who are living in the UAE. The Philippine Embassy is also located in Abu Dhabi, while the Consulate is in Dubai. For OFWs who have passports that are about to expire, below is the guide on how to renew your Philippine Passport.

Applying for a New Passport in Abu Dhabi

The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi has been around for quite some time; since June 1980, to be precise. Back then, it was located at Al Ain Palace Hotel, and has moved locations several times before settling into the present address. The current Philippine Ambassador to the UAE is H.E. Hjayceelyn M. Quintana.

Indeed, for more than four decades, the Philippine Embassy has been providing important services to the Pinoy population in the UAE, including passport renewal services. If your Philippine passport is expiring soon, then it’s time to apply for renewal at the Embassy. Keep on reading to learn more about the requirements, steps, and other information about passport renewal services in Abu Dhabi.

Requirements

For adult applicants, the requirements for passport renewal are as follows:

  • Confirmed online appointment;
  • Accomplished Passport Renewal Application Form;
  • Original passport;
  • One (1) photocopy of passport data page;
  • Passport fee of AED 240.00; and
  • Personal appearance of the applicant.

Meanwhile, for minor applicants (17 years old and below), the following documents must be prepared:

  • Confirmed online appointment;
  • Accomplished Passport Renewal Application Form for Minors;
  • Original passport of minor applicant;
  • One (1) photocopy of passport data page;
  • One (1) photocopy of passport data page of parent(s);
  • Passport fee of AED 240.00;
  • Personal appearance of the minor applicant; and
  • Personal appearance of either parent(s).

In addition to the above requirements, if it is the mother who will accompany the minor applicant, this document must be submitted, as well:

  • Original and one (1) photocopy of minor applicant’s Birth Certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Manila.

On the other hand, if it is the father who will accompany the minor applicant, these documents must be submitted:

  • Original and one (1) photocopy of minor applicant’s Birth Certificate issued by the PSA and authenticated by the DFA in Manila; and
  • Original and one (1) photocopy of parents’ Marriage Certificate issued by the PSA and authenticated by the DFA in Manila.

How to Book a Passport Appointment

You need to book an appointment before going to the Philippine Embassy. Simply go to auhpe.checkappointments.com to book a free appointment. Then, prepare all the necessary requirements and fees.

How to Renew Passport During Appearance Day at the Philippine Embassy

On the scheduled date and time of your appointment, head to the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Don’t forget to bring all the requirements!

Upon arriving at the Embassy, go to the Information Counter to confirm your online appointment and to get a queue number. Then, proceed to the Passport Processing Counter for checking and verification of your documents.

Next, pay the necessary fees at the Cashier. Then, head to the Passport Encoding Section for biometrics (e.g. front-facing photograph, fingerprints) capturing. That’s it!

Once again, here is a quick rundown of the passport renewal process at the Embassy:

STEP 1: FALL IN LINE. Get a number from the queuing officer at the entrance of the embassy and wait for your number to be called.

STEP 2: DATA ENCODING & PICTURE TAKING. When your number is called out, Proceed to the data encoding and picture taking and hand them your documents. Make sure to check all the information encoded correctly or else they will charge you if you request it to be corrected once its printed out.

STEP 3: PAYMENT OF 240.00 AED. Present all the documents that has been verified and encoded and make a payment of 240 Dirhams. You will be given a claim stub for the release of your passport. Release may take approximately 30-60 days.

STEP 4: CHECK THE WEBSITE. After 30-60 days, you can check the list of ready for release passports here. It is wiser to check the website from time to time as there are times that passport becomes available immediately.

STEP 5: CLAIM THE PASSPORT. Do not forget to bring your Old Passport and claim stub. You need Physical appearance to claim your passport, unless the applicant is a minor, in which case the passport can be released to either parent  upon presentation of identification.

Meanwhile, here are some commonly asked questions about passport services at the Philippine Embassy.

1. How can I claim my new passport?

To claim your new passport, personal appearance at the Embassy is required. Go to the Passport Releasing Section. Put a claim stub on the box/tray provided, and wait for your name to be called. Then, present your official receipt and your old passport for cancellation.

Upon getting your new passport, be sure to check the details and make sure that everything is correct. Then, sign on the signature pad to acknowledge that you have received your new passport.

NOTE: Passports are released from Sundays to Thursdays, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Please be reminded that passports left unclaimed after six (6) months will be canceled.

2. Can I ask another person to claim my new passport?

Yes, another person can claim your passport on your behalf, as long as that person is an immediate family member (e.g. mother, father, brother, sister, spouse, or child of legal age). He/She should bring an Authorization Letter and a valid ID to claim your new passport.

3. What is the dress code for passport renewal?

Everyone is advised to come to the Embassy in proper attire. Please avoid wearing tank tops, sleeveless tops, sandos, slippers, shorts, and other inappropriate attire. Also, please take note that earrings, necklaces, hair accessories and contact lenses must be removed prior to biometrics capturing.

4. I recently got married, and I would like to use my husband’s surname on my passport. What are the requirements?

If you would like to use your husband’s surname on your passport, please prepare the following requirements:

  • Original and one (1) photocopy of Marriage Certificate, authenticated by the DFA in Manila; or
  • Original and one (1) photocopy of Report of Marriage (if married abroad).

5. I would like to revert to my maiden name. What do I need to prepare?

This would depend on your specific case. Below are the requirements for women who would like to revert to using their maiden names on their passports.

For widows:

  • Original and one (1) photocopy of PSA-issued Death Certificate of the deceased husband, authenticated by the DFA in Manila; and
  • Original and one (1) photocopy of PSA-issued Birth Certificate, authenticated by the DFA in Manila.

For annulled marriages:

  • Original copy of Annotated Null and Void Marriage Contract issued by the PSA and authenticated by the DFA in Manila;
  • Certified True Copy (CTC) of Court Order effecting the annulment; and
  • Original copy of Birth Certificate issued by the PSA and authenticated by the DFA in Manila.

For divorced marriages:

  • CTC of Divorce Decree authenticated by the Philippine Embassy or Consulate where the divorce was obtained or by the concerned foreign diplomats or consular mission in the Philippines;
  • CTC of Philippine court recognition of foreign divorce decree; and
  • Original copy of Marriage Contract with the annotation of the Divorce Decree from the PSA.

6. I lost my passport. How can I replace it?

If you lost your passport, prepare the following requirements so you can have it replaced:

  • Accomplished Passport Renewal Application Form;
  • Original and one (1) photocopy of Report of Loss from the UAE Immigration Office, stamped by the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters and with English translation;
  • One (1) photocopy of the lost passport (if available);
  • Original and one (1) photocopy of PSA-issued Birth Certificate, authenticated by the DFA in Manila;
  • Original and notarized Affidavit of Loss filed at the Embassy;
  • Passport fee of AED 600.00 for lost ePassports / AED 360.00 for lost MRPs (maroon passports) and MRRPs (green passports); and
  • Personal appearance of the applicant.

NOTE: There is a 15-day clearing period before the processing of your application to replace a lost passport.

7. My passport has been damaged. How can I replace it?

Get these requirements ready to apply for the replacement of a damaged passport:

  • Confirmed online appointment;
  • Original and notarized Affidavit of Mutilation;
  • Original passport;
  • One (1) photocopy of passport’s data page and last page;
  • Passport fee of AED 240.00; and
  • Personal appearance of the applicant.

The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi is open from Sundays to Thursdays, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. It is closed during public holidays of the UAE and the Philippines.
