There are plenty of malls in Abu Dhabi where you can shop, dine, watch movies, and do other fun activities. But have you ever tried exploring the more traditional markets or souks?

The term “souk” basically translates to “marketplace” in Arabic. Here, you can buy spices, textiles, perfumes, and traditional handicrafts. In addition, you’d be surprised to discover that souks nowadays also sell a variety of clothing, household items, and even electronic goods!

Where to Find Souks in Abu Dhabi

In Abu Dhabi, you will find the following souks, each of them featuring different kinds of goods, such as fresh produce, household items, accessories, and of course.. souvenirs!

#1 – Fish Souk
Love seafood? Head to the Fish Souk at Mina Zayed, which is situated near the main port area of Abu Dhabi. Get the chance to buy some fresh catch, and don’t forget to haggle!

#2 – Al Mina Fruit & Vegetable Souk
Right across from the Fish Souk is the Al Mina Fruit & Vegetable Souk. Here, you will find stall upon stall of colourful fruits and veggies… a feast for the eyes as well as your tummy!

#3 – Carpet Souk
Situated along Mina Road near the main port area of Abu Dhabi is the Carpet Souk. If you are planning for an “Arabic look” in your home, you will definitely find traditional carpets, mattresses, and majlis-style cushions in this marketplace!

#4 – Al Ain Souk
The historic Al Ain Souk is also called Old Souk or Central Souk. It may not be as modern-looking as most marketplaces, but coming here is an amazing experience in itself!

#5 – Souk Al Bawadi & Souk Al Qaws
Also in Al Ain, right next to Bawadi Mall, are two souks, Souk Al Bawadi and Soul Al Qaws. Souk Al Bawadi has more than 50 shops offering traditional items, whereas Souk Al Qaws consists of 40 outlets that include travel companies, banks, and money exchange services.

#6 – Souk Al Zafarana
Souk Zafarana is situated in Al Ain, near Al Jimi Mall. Aside from the usual offerings, this souk includes a section that is exclusive for women, Mubdia Village. Souk Zafarana is open from 10 am to 1pm, and then again from 8pm to 12 midnight.
