PHILIPPINES: Overseas Filipino workers could one day receive a separate monthly pension under a proposed law that seeks to create a dedicated retirement fund just for them.
The measure, Senate Bill No. 252, is known as the OFW Pension Act of 2025. Sen. Erwin Tulfo filed it on July 8, 2025.
According to the Senate’s official legislative record, the bill would establish an Overseas Filipino Workers Pension Fund to provide pensions to OFWs. In short, it aims to build a retirement benefit designed around the needs of Filipinos working abroad.

What the Proposal Offers
The proposal has drawn fresh attention because it could provide a monthly pension of Php 5,000 for qualified retirees. That figure has renewed conversations about what long-term financial security could look like for migrant workers and their families.
Still, it’s important to keep this in perspective. The measure remains a proposal. It has not become law, and there is no pension being paid out under it yet.
What OFWs Should Know for Now
Applications are not open. No one needs to register, sign up, or pay anyone to claim this proposed benefit at this stage.
If you come across posts or messages claiming that applications for the Php 5,000 OFW pension have already started, treat them with caution. Details such as amounts and eligibility could still change as the bill moves through Congress.
For now, the best step is to watch for official updates from Congress and the Philippine government. As the measure progresses, clearer information on qualifications and timelines should follow.
We’ll keep an eye on developments so you can stay informed every step of the way.
